State Parks Learning Legacy Fund
for Environmental Education
The State Parks Learning Legacy Fund helps children experience the natural wonders within North Carolina state parks. Established by NC Friends of State Parks, the fund supports school field trips to parks, outdoor learning adventures, nature camps and other environmental education opportunities.
Supporting Schools
A memorable state parks field trip enriches science and social studies learning for the entire school year. Transportation grants help school districts overcome financial constraints to visiting a park. Teacher collaborative workshops align field trips with NC learning standards and provide resources to help teachers use their schoolyard for outdoor learning.
Outdoor Learning Adventures
The Learning Legacy Fund supports educational visits to state parks by youth organizations, faith-based youth groups, and home schools. These life-long memorable adventures occur during school breaks, weekends and teacher workdays.
Nature Camps
Haw River State Park operates an Environmental Education center with both day camps and overnight nature camps. Other state parks also offer day camps during school breaks. The Learning Legacy Fund can help offer these opportunities to those who would otherwise be unable to attend.
Contributions to the Learning Legacy Fund support children in all regions of North Carolina, fostering pride and unity through the natural resources we all share in our state parks.
